Red Sox give Papelbon $12 million
The Boston Red Sox and closer Jonathan Papelbon have agreed to a $12 million deal for 2011, avoiding salary arbitration.
The team decided to give him a $2.5 million raise over last season instead of fighting it out in court.
It is the highest arbitration contract among pitchers in 2011 and the fourth-highest in all of baseball.
The Red Sox weren’t particularly pleased with the way he pitched last year, and it’s possible he could lose the closer’s role. (Read More…)
